The Sports Medicine Clinic sees all sports medicine injuries. X-ray and other diagnostic imaging are available on site.

The Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Clinic


The Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Clinic offers the latest non-surgical treatment for orthopedic injuries and conditions, including

Concussion Management Program


The Concussion Management Program utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to diagnose and manage sports-related concussions. Treatment plans are tailored to the individual athlete by a team of:

The Boston Sports Performance Center’s team provides the most up-to-date, evidence-based services through baseline testing, post-concussion management, and return to sport progressions. Our goal is to ensure every athlete is 100% recovered by the time they return to competition and play.

Regenerative Medicine Clinic


The Regenerative Medicine Clinic seeks to enable the body to heal its own damaged tissue without surgery. Injuries to bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints can be treated with Regenerative Medicine, including:
  • Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
  • Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs)

Tactical Athlete Clinic


St. Elizabeth’s Tactical Athlete Clinic is dedicated to the health and wellness of public safety personnel. We work closely with military, fire and rescue, law enforcement, protective services and emergency services personnel to treat injuries and illnesses, promote wellness and decrease injury risk on the job.

Gymnastics Medicine Program


The Gymnastics Medicine Clinic is a sports medicine clinic that provides gymnastic-specific care geared exclusively towards the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of gymnastics injuries. The unique space offers an AirTrack, balance beam, uneven bar, floor bar, panel mat and other gymnastics-specific equipment necessary for the thorough evaluation and treatment of gymnasts.

Meet the Team


The medical team, led by Dr. Thomas Gill, chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, specializes in ACL reconstruction, articular cartilage and meniscus repair, and shoulder surgery, including rotator cuff and labral repairs.

Thomas J. Gill, MD

SPORTS MEDICINE, KNEE AND SHOULDER SURGERY,
ORTHOPEDICS
Dr. Thomas Gill is the chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, and professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. In recent years, he has served as medical director for the Boston Red Sox, head team physician for the New England Patriots, team physician for the Boston Bruins and medical director of Boston Ballet. Dr. Gill has authored more than 170 scientific articles and book chapters on injuries involving the knee and shoulder and has written books on complications of shoulder surgery and techniques of knee arthroscopy.

A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Gill completed his residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program. He completed the Maurice Muller Fellowship in reconstructive surgery in Bern, Switzerland and a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado.

Jennifer Luz, MD

SPORTS MEDICINE, MEDICAL SPORTS MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION
Board certified in physiatry (physical medicine and rehabilitation) as well as fellowship trained in medical sports medicine, Dr. Jennifer Luz takes a non-surgical approach to the treatment of musculoskeletal sports conditions. She focuses on treating the whole patient to prevent injury, improve performance and enhance overall health for child and adult athletes of all skill levels. Dr. Luz specializes in ultrasound-guided diagnostics, utilizing in-office imaging to diagnose a variety of joint, muscle, ligament, and tendon injuries and also specializes in ultrasound-guided procedures to treat these conditions. 
A graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine, she completed her residency training at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Harvard Medical School PM&R program, and fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital Harvard Medical School Sports Medicine program. She is a Clinical Instructor of Orthopedics at Tufts University School of Medicine and is Assistant Team Physician for the Boston Cannons. Dr. Luz is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.

Hector Osoria, MD

SPORTS MEDICINE, PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION
Sports medicine physician Dr. Hector Osoria is board certified in physiatry and sports medicine and treats professional, collegiate, and high school athletes as well as recreational athletes. He utilizes musculoskeletal ultrasound for injury diagnosis and minimally invasive orthopedic procedures and has a clinical interest in combat sports injuries arising from his own training as a grappler.

Dr. Osoria studied exercise science at Rutgers University before he earned his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. He completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital-Harvard Medical School in Boston, and a non-surgical sports medicine fellowship in the Atlantic Health System in New Jersey where he worked as also a fellow team physician for the New York Jets. Dr. Osoria is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the Ringside Physician’s Association.


David J. Caldarella, DPM, FACFAS

FOOT AND ANKLE SURGERY
Dr. Caldarella is a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon with expertise in both common and complex foot and conditions in both adults and adolescents. He specializes in sports-related injuries, congenital and acquired deformities, traumatic injuries, foot and ankle fracture care, foot and ankle reconstruction, and revisional surgery.

Dr. Caldarella is board certified in foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He earned his medical degree from Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa, after which he completed a residency in foot and ankle surgery at The Podiatry Institute at Emory/Northlake Regional Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia. He was then awarded a prestigious AO fellowship on the foot, ankle, and amputee service in the department of orthopedic surgery at Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington Medical School in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Caldarella joined St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center’s Bone and Joint Center team in September 2021.


Brian Petrone, PA-C

SPORTS MEDICINE, ORTHOPEDICS
Brian Petrone, PA-C is a physician assistant in St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center’s Orthopedic Department and specializes in sports medicine. He worked for New England Baptist Hospital in sports medicine and Newton Wellesley Hospital as an emergency department physician assistant. He holds a paramedic license and remains teaching for several pre-hospital organizations. He is the former physician assistant for the New England Patriots. Currently, serves as the director of medical operations for the Boston Cannons. Brian holds a Bachelor of Science degree in health science from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. He completed his physician assistant training from Springfield College.
